Community Hub First Anniversary

Red Deer Village, Stepps, the five star retirement park, is celebrating the first anniversary of its custom-built community hub. The facility for park residents to use and enjoy was installed last year.

Hub Opening

Pathfinder Homes created the £450k building for Red Deer Village. Two local politicians, MP for the area, Hugh Gaffney, and local MSP, Fulton MacGregor, officially opened it last year. Rufus Bellamy, son of TV botanist David, represented the BH&HPA at the ceremony. (British Holiday & Home Parks Association). Red Deer Village is a multiple Gold Award Winner of the David Bellamy Conservation Scheme for parks.

Hub Usage

The hub features a cosy fire, sofas, coffee area, luxury Voyage soft furnishings, impressive toilets, and a number of individual rooms and offices. It’s a light and airy building, with a comfortable interior and outside decked area. The hub has been extremely well used in its first year. It is now the meeting point for a weekly knitting bee and Slimming club. It also hosts a regular Beetle Drive, sports or film night, book club, and even a Qi Gong yoga class.

Big Events

The hub has hosted a number of charity events organised by the residents themselves. These include a Macmillan Coffee Afternoon, and MSP Fulton MacGregor performing a Christmas Light Switch-on Extravaganza. Fulton MacGregor has since started using the hub for surgeries with local residents every few months.

Hub Benefits

“We’re absolutely delighted with how well the hub has bedded in here at Red Deer Village. We literally feel that it has always been here,” said John Hendry, who owns the village with his brother Ivan. “We have left what goes on here in terms of entertainment and socialising entirely up to the residents. It’s their space, and I think they have done a great job in coming up with a mix of activity with something to suit everyone.”

“Their enthusiasm for it all has blown us away,” he added. “It’s been great to give something back to them for their loyalty, as some of them have been with us for over ten years. We had an office type building here before on this same spot but it was nothing like the hub. It really is a luxurious, state-of-the-art facility. We feel it’s a real asset to the park overall.”

“We’re also really pleased to see MSP Fulton MacGregor hosting surgeries here. As it means it’s a real part of the community for the area,” said Ivan Hendry.

Hub Background

The £450k hub took over eighteen months to plan and over six months to build and complete. It was a significant investment for the business to make at the time.

“It’s a proper building – eco-friendly and highly energy efficient,” said Ivan. “Pathfinder Park Homes have been supplying homes to the park industry for over forty years. They did a fantastic job with it for us. It was the first of its type in the UK.”

Red Deer Village Park Homes

Red Deer Village is currently into Phase Three of its development of luxury park homes. It has reported a marked increase in business since the hub’s launch. Over 50s are releasing equity in their large family homes, and downsizing to a new lifestyle on the park.

“Customers want to put their money into quality, and our park homes keep their value,” said John Hendry. “We have been buoyed by recent industry reports stating that competition to acquire parks has become fierce for new business owners, as the sector is burgeoning. We’ll continue to invest in our park. We’d welcome new legislation whereby you could get a mortgage on a park home. This would open the market up even more.”

Buyers can reserve a park home at Red Deer Village for £1000, with no stamp duty to pay. Part exchange is also available. Prices are currently from £109,950 for fully furnished and decorated park homes. They offer a stress free, maintenance free lifestyle amongst like-minded people.
