Summer is the perfect season to take a stroll and absorb some of Glasgow’s finest scenery, don’t you think?

If you’re new to the area or just looking for somewhere new to see, we’ve compiled a list of our top three centrally located parks to visit; just remember to pack a waterproof, we all know how unpredictable Scottish summers are!

Pollock Country Park

Pollock Country Park is without a doubt one of our favourite parks to take a tranquil, scenic stroll. Located in the Pollockshaws area, it is easily accessible by a short train journey from Glasgow Central Station to Pollockshaws West.

For those who have never heard of the park, it not only attains the title of Glasgow’s largest park but it is the only Country park in the city, pretty impressive right?

As you can imagine, the park contains stunning woodlands and gardens which are guaranteed to capture your heart. Amongst the scenery you can also find the stunning Pollock House and stables of horses and highland cattle; and if you fancy a break from all that walking, there are designated picnic areas and a cafe. The park is also home to the world famous Burrell Collection, however the museum is currently under refurbishment and closed until 2020.

Botanic Gardens

Located centrally on Great Western Road, Glasgow’s Botanic Gardens are just a short subway journey away. To get there, all you need to do is jump on one of the regular subway services from Buchanan Street or St Enoch to Hillhead; it’s as easy as that!

Glasgow’s gorgeous Botanic Gardens are definitely a place of interest for those who love flowers, trees and all things green. While the indoor botanics takes centre stage as the main attraction, there is a heritage trail which includes 30 points of interest! The gardens are currently hosting guided tours and walks so if you’d like to learn and stroll it’d be worth timing your visit with a scheduled tour (dates can be found here).

For the tea and cake lovers out there, the Botanics also have tearooms which serve delicious afternoon tea. There is a lovely area for sitting outside if you visit on a sunny day.

Bellahouston Park

Whether you grew up in Glasgow or just recently moved to Red Deer Village from further afield, Bellahouston Park is a park you’re bound to have heard of; it has played host to the gigs of some of the world’s biggest musicians. Located on Paisley Road West, the park is easily accessed by several bus services including simpliCITY 9 and simpliCITY 10.

Bellahouston is the perfect balance of culture, heritage and fun. Within the park you’ll find two bowling greens, the original Portico Entrance, an Alice in Wonderland themed maze and so much more! For art appreciators, there is a stunning sculpture garden within which you can find the “House of an Art Lover”, an exhibition constructed based upon an original Charles Rennie Mackintosh design.

Alternatively, if none of these parks take your fancy, or if you’ve “been there and done that” we can also recommend visiting Glasgow Green – home to the People’s Palace and Winter Gardens –  and Kelvingrove Park.
