The Red Deer Village Guide to Stirling

A great advantage of living here at Red Deer Village is how close the area is to some of Scotland’s most beautiful cities and towns; including Edinburgh, Perthshire and Loch Lomond.

One of our favourite cities to visit is Stirling, which is conveniently located just 30 minutes from the Red Deer Village premises. Identifying as the city which is “Alive with Scotland”, Stirling remains true to it’s word offering a wealth of culture, cuisine and history to its visitors.

Getting There

Stirling is easily accessed by car, bus or train.

If you’re travelling by car the recommended route is simple, just follow the M80 and you’ll be there before you know it!

If, on the other hand, you fancy leaving the car and making a day of your trip, there is a regular train service from Glasgow Queen Street station as well as frequent busses which depart from Buchanan Bus Station.

Pay Attention Heritage and History Lovers

If you’re someone who loves being immersed in culture and history, Stirling is the perfect place for you.

For those interested in cultural attractions, The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Regimental Museum and The Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum are located within Stirling’s city centre. Both museums offer rich cultural and educational insights and occasionally host interesting events perfect for a heritage lover.

If historical landmarks are more up your street, why not take a trip to Stirling Castle? The popular tourist attraction contains iconic historical sights such as The Royal Palace of James V and The Great Hall of James IV. If castle’s aren’t your thing, The Wallace Monument is another fantastic historical treat which tells the story of one of Scotland’s most memorable heroes, William Wallace.

For The Experience Enthusiasts

Stirling is home to the highly praised Blair Drummond Safari Park where you can take a boat trip to Chimp Island, watch the sea lions play, or simply enjoy the scenery the park has to offer. To get the ultimate experience, we recommend taking your car and driving around the safari – that way you can get really up close and personal to the animals!

For something really out of the box, the Old Town Jail is opening its doors to “prisoners” from mid-June to mid-September 2017. Mixing history with fun, the attraction offers an insight into life within ”the worst jail in Britain”, the story of which is enhanced with the much-loved performance tours. For the budding photographers out there, the jail also offers stunning views from the Observatory Tower.

Cuisine

After your fun-filled day exploring the city, you’re bound to need a good bit of grub. Lucky for you, Stirling is bursting with delicious places to eat!

Some of our favourite places to eat include popular Italian restaurant L’Angolino, The Smithy which offers British Cuisine, Mexican eatery Smiling Jacks and much loved Indian restaurant Maharaja.
