We love how beautiful Red Deer Village looks in Winter when the sun shines on the frost. The sunshine, however, can be deceiving. This winter temperatures have frequently fallen below zero and January is set to be the same.

Thankfully our homes are all double-glazed and come installed with gas central heating, but on those especially cold days we can all do with following these tips to keep us cosy and warm!

Heating your Home

Our park homes are well insulated and can require less energy to heat. If you spend more time in your lounge you might want to heat this more than other rooms. Around 18°C-21°C is an ideal temperature.

On particularly cold days, when you need an instant blast of warmth, oil heaters are great and can be cost effective. Alternatively the following can be extremely beneficial to warm you up directly through contact:

  • Hot water bottle
  • Heated blanket – never with hot water bottle
  • Bath/shower

Other things to consider are making sure that you’re eating well to create energy. Hot meals and drinks will instantly warm you through.

Keep the Cold Out

As well as creating warmth, there are lots of simple tricks to maximise and prolong the heat to keep you and your home cosy.

Once you’ve popped your heating on make sure that the rooms you want to keep warm are well sealed off. If you have already closed your doors and windows using draft excluders around doors and thicker curtains over windows will help to seal in the heat. Furthermore, if you want to save on gas and electricity you might consider turning the heating down/off in rooms you don’t go in often such as the bathroom.

Finally, can you see your radiators? Make sure you’re not blocking the heat coming through with furniture or washing.

Keeping Yourself Warm in the Cold

Around the house make sure you don’t sit still for too long. Even if it’s just to get up and make a cuppa. If you are sat down maximise your own body heat by covering yourself in a snug blanket, layers of clothing and slippers.

If you do have to venture out consider leaving the house at the least cold time of the day – usually around midday or early afternoon. Keep an eye on the weather forecasts too, just to make sure. You’ll want to keep in as much heat as possible when you’re out and about. Make sure you cover everything up leaving nothing exposed to cold air. Lots of layers of thinner materials made from wool or fleecy fibres will keep the heat trapped. Remember to cover up your face with a scarf to keep your breath warm.

If in doubt… just don’t go out! Sometimes in cases of frost and snow it’s just not worth battling through the cold. Plus, there’s nothing better than snuggling up indoors on a cold day!
